The most common subtropical timber bamboo. Seen often in Southern California. Grows in a columnar form with nodding culm tips. The wood is not very flexible. The culms have very thick walls. One of the most drought tolerant bamboos. Used as a windbreak in New Zealand and soon, Hawaii. The new shoots are excellent for cooking.
